Hello, everybody! I just read “In the Lurch” by Beth Martin recently, and I can’t tell you how impressed I am!
You’ve been replaced.
Once a machine could do as much work as three men, the labor force was quickly replaced by much more efficient androids. As the number of robots grew, jobs disappeared, and everyone in the middle class found themselves obsolete. The wealthiest few prosper, but most of humanity was thrown into extreme poverty.
Leona lives a life of privilege, while Roemell never knows where his next meal will come from. A terrorist group—the lurch—starts targeting wealthy estates, burning them to the ground. Leona and Roemell find themselves thrown together, both having lost everything dear to them. Will they be able to stop the terrorists, or will all of humanity get left in the lurch?
This book was definitely a page-turner! I loved how Roemell fought to protect his sister (sibling love in books is the best!) and Leona’s character arc was fantastic–she really grew as a person.
I have to say, this isn’t my typical read or even age-range, but I was not disappointed! I will say that I didn’t care as much for the very beginning,–probably due to the fact that I mainly read YA and wasn’t expecting the adult content in the first chapter– but the book just kept drawing me in as I read. It only took a few chapters for me to fall in love with the story!
It’s fast-pasted and intense, and filled with a compelling plot! The possible realism of the idea made it that much more intriguing!
I highly recommend this read! There’s links below, so be sure to add it to your TBR! 🙂
